What is Anoro Ellipta?
Anoro Ellipta is a combination inhaled medicine used to treat chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) in adults. It contains a combination of umeclidinium and vilanterol to help manage symptoms of COPD. This is used as a maintenance inhaler for daily use. It is not used as a rescue treatment for acute COPD attacks or an inhaler for asthma.
Anoro Ellipta Information
Anoro Ellipta is administered via oral inhalation. As a maintenance treatment, it is administered once daily as one inhalation dose. One dose contains 62.5 mcg of umeclidinium and 25 mcg of vilanterol.
Anoro Ellipta contains a long-acting muscarinic antagonist (LAMA) and a long-acting beta-agonist (LABA). Umeclidinium is the LAMA component and it helps relax the smooth muscles in the bronchial airways.
Vilanterol is the LABA component, and it also helps relax the smooth muscles in the lungs and airways in order to make breathing easier for those with COPD. It should be used daily for maximum effectiveness.
Anoro Ellipta is used to manage and control symptoms of COPD, such as chronic bronchitis and emphysema. Using it daily can help manage and control COPD symptoms like wheezing, chest tightness, and trouble breathing.
It is a prescription medication that is administered once daily to control and prevent COPD symptoms. Individuals using this can expect to breathe easier and stay active without chest tightness or trouble breathing.

Anoro Ellipta FAQs
You should rinse your mouth after using an inhaled corticosteroid to prevent the risk of oral thrush, or fungal infections in the mouth. Because this does not contain a corticosteroid, oral thrush is not a concern. However, it may cause a mild sore throat as a side effect.
It is not a steroid. This product contains umeclidinium, an anticholinergic, and vilanterol, a long-acting beta-agonist (LABA). In some people with more severe COPD, treatment with an inhaled corticosteroid in addition to Anoro Ellipta may be recommended. An example of an inhaled corticosteroid that treats COPD is fluticasone, otherwise known by the brand name Flovent.
It is not approved to treat asthma. In addition, it is a maintenance medication. It should not be used to treat acute symptoms of COPD. Patients with asthma will require a different medication to manage their symptoms.
Anoro Ellipta is manufactured by GlaxoSmithKline. There are currently no generic equivalents available at this time.
Anoro Ellipta is not generally associated with weight gain, according to the manufacturer label. Steroid medications for COPD are more likely to increase the risk of weight gain. In general, however, weight loss has been reported in approximately one-third of patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
